Auld Lang Syne

Hello to everyone, as this family looks over the past year we have manythings to be thanksful for, nothing to regret and much hope for 2009. Josh and i spent the evening searching the internet for a new nursery and i couldnt help but find the theme for New Years Eve- Auld Lang Syne, which i found has a load of meaning behind it, one we personally relate to with all the moving a military family does.
What is the meaning of this New Year's Eve Song? Auld Lang Syne is about old friends who have parted and meet again. To celebrate their long friendship, they share a drink together and reminisce of memories from long ago. The basic message is that we should not forget our old friends and should celebrate a reunion with them
Tha song is often heard in its native language which i think is from scotland but i found a translation, my favortie verse is - And there is a hand, my trusty friend,And give us a hand of yours,And we will take a goodwill draught (of ale)For old long ago
Wich basically means celebrate the reunions with old friends.
Josh and i have been thinking up different blog names, any ideas, x4 would work of course.
Anyhow, thats all for tonight. We wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the blessing 2009 will bring.

Deck the Halls

Hello everyone, the Chirstmas Season is upon us here in italy. The air is cold, the mountains are covered with snow and the house is decorated, including garland on out balcony since these italian contractors didnt put any socket to plug in lights out there. Jacob enjoys it all the same.
Jacob loved decorating the tree, he has been really great about leaving it alone now, once in a hwile he will snatch a lower strung one, we made sure those are all softies!! His new favortie words consist of candycane spoken VERY quickly and with a ton of enthusiasm!! ANTA or as we know him Santa, he claims snowmen as Anta as well.

FAR- Jacob Enjoyed a snack at rose's house while we took his
xmas photo!!
This Photo is J of course and his BF Isaac, we cropped this photo and sent it to the cutest kid contest at Parenting Magazine, Keep your fingures crossed!!!

We have been busy on this side of the world, wiht our trip to Florence over we now have Rome to look forward to. Florence was beautiful though, it was a pretty day as well a little windy but sunny. We visitied the statue of david however were not allowed to photograph it. It is remarkable.
Jacob enjoyed the bus ride of course and then gazing at all the people from his stroller.
We entered Jacob in the cutest kid contest through parenting magazine, keep yor fingure crossed!! Winner would be the foot model for carters footwear and wins a wardrobe!!!! we are carter fans so how awesome would this be.

We have had an addition to our family no for 24 hrs, Isaac. Jacob's Best friend came to stay with us while his Mommy and daddy finally had their baby. Keep the Phillips family in your thougts and prayers as they begin a life of a family of 4. They had a baby girl at 3 42 pm on Nov 25th. Ryann is her name.

Jacob had is 18th well baby check up 33.5 inches long and 23 lbs he is in the 25% for weight which is up from his 12 mth check up he was 10%. The dr said he looks wonderful has a mouth full of teeth and the curiousity he showed in the room and to the dr, we were told is a sign of intelligence!!

Venice 2008

Hello Everyone, we took advantge this week of living in Italy and headed to Veince to do a little chirstmas shopping. It was Jacob's second trip and he did 100% better then whe he was 3 weeks old go figure!!!
Waiting for the train to arrive.

So anyway as we walked in and out of shops and stopped for Gelato (spelling) ICE CREAM of course even in the foggy cold weather we are having, it is time to break out the winter coats.
This is the building the Harrisburg's captial building is modled after.

we head to Florence tmrw very ealry in the morning to get a real life view of the staute of David, Praise god for the blessings of living in europe though the day to day things can be frustrating how many people are able to take their families to Florence or Venice for the day.

This us of course, there is a boat int he background.

so enjoy the pics of the little world traveler Jacob is!!

HELLO,
We have chosen turkeys to get us through November, Jacob knows this funny animal and when asked what a turkey says he says " ga ga ga ga" his gobble!!
J has a small fever and cough today but we have jsut been putting around the house so he has been able to get lots of rest, he also enjoyed helping me dust and mop his room.

This picture is J wearing what used to be MY sunglasses until the little guy toted them off and sctrached the lens, now they are his and when we out thme on him he repeats "cool, cool" over and over, he walks around with his head int he air when he wears them, this doesnt last long since he ends up bumping into things.

Josh and i started a family bible study last night, with 2 other families from our church, jacob enjoys playing with Isaac while the parents study the word and fellowship. We love exposing him to this way of life even if he is so young.

We are looking forward to a 4 day weekend and have a trip to Venice planned, should be fun, look forward to pics of J in Venice, his 2nd time EVER!!

This pic is Jacob enjoying Pearl, its a good thing i didnt relocate her while Josh was away, she is one bad kitty but Jacob LOVES her, and she lets him knock her around.

Also we want to end by thanking all our Venterans, both living and passed. We thank you for your love and bravery!!!

Oh what a wonderful month

As we leave October i just have a few pumpkin carving photos to share, we went to our firends house for carving pumpkins , pizza and baking suger cookies.

We also went to a fall festival at our church but i didnt have my camera, Josh was the pround winner of the pie eating constest and Jacob got to, dig for a prize, pick a pumpkin and had his face painted.

As we move into November we look forward to thanksgiving, and Mom's birthday!!

we will have over the Phillips family and their new addition, as well as another girlfriend, whose husband is overthere!! what a blessing it is, if we cant be with our family back home we can be with such a wonderful military family.

we also hope to get to florence and maybe some sledding, if the rain ever turns to snow.
Jacob and Josh's adveture at the moment, bulding tents/forts. Jacob has asked grandma S. for a pop up tent for xmas but until then he uses blankets and pillows to make one. he just loves it, he even attempted to drag the blankets himself until he gave up and yelled "help help, pease"
have a blessed November, This Garner Family has a ton to be thankful for!!

October- part 1

What a whirlwind life we have had this month here in Italy, October has flown by and i wanted to post some photos of what we have been up to.

Jack rabbit season is in here and Josh introduced Jacob to them, dead of course thansk to Paolo our neighboor, I think he looks scared , poor B Josh bought a car as some of you may know, a little european one and Jacob just thinks it is his playpen, he can climb into the drivers seat in seconds and Daddy let him ride on his lap while parking it in back.

Fire Saftey Week is in October and Jacob held on to this hat all week, he thought it was jsut great to have on and stomp around the house, this other photos he looks jsut like his daddy, SO CUTE!!

We went to a halloween Party hosted by our good friends Maggie and Nate, they have a little developmental books says at this age they arent big into interacting with other kids and paralell play instead of share but the two boys really play with one another. Maggie is Due with her 2nd baby, a little girl Nov 18th, Keep her in your prayers. We went to the party basically as an Aladdin theme, i was a belly dancer of some sort, Josh sent me this outfit frmm OVERTHERE and he was given his outfit as a gift, Jacob is of course a little monkey. The pic of J with the big hair is SOOO funny, nate was a disco dancer and had this huge afro wig!!!

PUMPKIN Festival= Zucca Festival

We went to Venzone Italy, where an annual festival was held to celebrate all things pumpkin.
Here we saw Large pumpkins being carved, sold and even got to have a taste of pumpkin soup and nocchi or a type of noodle. It was a long day but J had fun and we got to see Italian cutlure in action.
Jacbo enjoyd riding on hte bus W/O a car seat AHHHH, ONLY in Italy. Next time i will bring on even if i can strap it down, Jacob wont know. He was all over the place. Check out his pumpkin shirt( Thanks Grandma Garner!!!) How apporpriate it was for the event.

ALRIGHT, Enjoy, i will post more on another day of our festivites!! we have a halloween event to attend and whatever else we find to entertain oursevles.

OCTOBER

Hello EVERYONE!!!!
Yes we're still here, it has been busy since getting back and heading back intro our own routine and swing of things,

we have attended a 15th birthday for a friend of mexican heritage WOW what an experience.
been to the dr
bought a car
back to the dr

Josh is back at work but was however set back as of yesterday, in the midst of doing paperwork to get his car he rolled his ankle and not sits on the chair with it Swollen, He went to the dr today and they x rayed it and told him to take it easy for 3 weeks but couldnt determine the injury until the swelling goes down.

Backing up to last week, we started back to playgroup, well as te children get older they can attend different levels, we went to the one on a playground outside, Jacob cralwed right into a car and fell over, scraping up his nose, POOR LITTLE guy!!!! he has healed quickly and it didnt slow him down that day at all.
We have been fighting a 2 1/5 week tummy bug, complete with major diaper rash, we got an appt Monday morning and he was given a anti-fungal treatment for the open areas on his behind, it seems to be clearing up.
along with the tummy issues, eating isnt his favorite thing to do and this is what we have decide it the colporate to the 6 AM WAKE UP!!!!! we figure he must be hungry.

All part of the job i suppose. On the look out we have a free assetment on the 7th, they will test eyes, hearing, social skills, height, weight, etc... i am looking forward to seeing where he is excelling and where and what we can do to teach him. jacob talks and talks, newly to the vocab is "JO" Nannie for Annie, he attempts his friends Isacc's name, and still loves saying NO NO, Truck, tractor, car, more and the list goes on. On a shopping trip the other day he pointed right at a women in line with bra and underpants in hand and said NO!!!! thank goodness she just laughed it off, Daddy figures it must not have been the right coloring for her.

Welcoming us back

Well along with unpacking and a messy house (thanks cats) Fall weather welcomed us back to Italy. We were semi prepared only our house had no heat and thanks to that Jacob now has a runny nose, lets hope it wont evolve.
Josh is back into the swing of things at work, he cme shome semi early and gets lots of play time withh Jacob but usually it's J and i all day going about our business. We started back to bible study, i am the teacher of the Genesis lesson offered and so far it went well, lots of new faces to meet and that fellowship and whorship time in the monring is amazing to have in our lives once a week, even jacob seems happier through out the day.

Along with the bible study lessons each week i continue to wokr of my degree, though stress full it will pay off, i know that.

jacob is IN TO EVERYTHING, he now is able to reach most every counter top in the house and does jsut that, without looking jsut PULLS. Our friend are amazed by his vocabulary and he loves to be outside still. everything these days on 2 + wheels is a truck- pronounced cuck. He has also learned to tell us what a duck, turkey and cow says.. HE amazes us everyday.

Ok photos will have to come another day when we are having a better internet connection

LOVE TO U ALL!!!

PS We got the heat fixed TODAY!!!!

Oh the wonderful changes

So as expected we have undergone some changes with Jacob since daddy has returned, we'll just say that Jacob is testing the waters, with screams, fits, and frustration anytime from dinner at resutrants to bed time.

Up until a week ago i had been able to go through our bed time routine, teeth brushing, stories etc.. and then place jacob in his crib with his music and off to slumber land he went. WELL these days it invloves a screaming fit as he lays in his room, we have resorted to even swaying in his room while holding him, whihc does put him to sleep quickly but as soon as we put him down AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Understandable i suppose, he likes to see what he can do to get daddy's attention.

other then this we are doing wonderfully and looking forward to the 19th!!!!
As most of you know alreayd Jacob is WALKING!!!!! hooray, just as we suspected he was wating for his dad, he started on the 27th!!!!

Jacob lost his pinky nail, yes his nail...he caught his finger in a draw in vicenza last week and the nail died and fell off, now we await the return of a new one, i m hoping it isnt a yucky thick one on my baby boys pinky!!!!

Check back next week, i hope to post a visdeo of Jbird walking on monday

Prayers and love to everyone!!!!

Mark Your Calendars

Hello Everyone, it has been awhile but nothing to eventful has taken place, we have been staying busy and having fun in the sun, We go to the pool and are off on our second beach trip Tomorrow morning.

Jacob is so close to walking, i still think he is waiting for his daddy which i can with some hesitation say he will be home at the end of NEXT week. WOW i say it with hesitation because as we have all seen the Army can be so unpredictable.

So until we get that phone call we stay busy!!!!!

Oh yes and now the most exciting news, We are coming home, after a long deployment Josh wants nothing more then to relax with his family in his great state of PA so here we come August 19th we arrive in Philadelphia, and we stay until Sept 14th, we are looking forward to seeing all of you and even hitting the wonderful Grange Fair!!

Watermelon and Fireworks!!!!

Two things I love and i am sure glad Jacob picked it up....We spent our 4th at a picnic with the Darlings, Jacob ate all the watermelon he could get, especially from our New Zealand friend Amanda, he just loves her accent, we also had grilled chicken and salad that Jacob enjoyed as well. Jacob and Kennedy swam in the pool and then took a late nap to prepare for the base fireworks show.
Jacob LOVED the fireworks, he sat and gazed at them and pointed, giggled and cuddled with mom and the other ladies we were with. This was Jacob's 2nd 4th of July but a huge improvement from the 1st, when it hailed so badly my sun roof in the upstairs bathroom shattered!!!

Jacob had his 1 year appt on Thursday, he is 13 months old now, 31 inches long and 20.3 lbs, The dr isn't too concerned but he hasn't gained in 2 months, they unfortunately had to draw blood, so it will be tested for any abnormalities, we are sure everything is fine and if there isn't an improvement in the next 5 mths the pediatrician will look into it. However he says that Jacob has stayed tall and thin on his chart and not to worry. he advised me to take away juice and cookies, these have tons of calories and baby's tend to fill up on them rather then eat. Jacob only get about a 1/4 cup of Juice mixed with water so i wont be taking it away, so now if i can convince Rose to stop giving Jacob 3 cookies each time we are over maybe it will help, of course that would mean getting Jacob to not point as he babbles "ca ca ca" he knows what that word means!!!!
Jacob's new favorite game is to point to things and have you tell him what it is, he can recall where the deer head is in his room if i say to him "wheres your deer?" also in the tub he was able to show me where on the page the duck was!!!! my little boy is soooooo smart!!!!

We are both doing well otherwise and had a wonderful holiday, we continue our count down but dates of course being thrown around, just continue to pray that he arrives safely!!!

The 1st of July

AHHH finally we are in the month of July what a wonderful month, the 4 th celebration and our 4 year anniversary, and now the count down to daddy's return. i am starting the count down to the 26th!!! lets hope thats the date.

So Jacob was i would say 70% better yesterday, he napped well and ate well, he even ceased his screaming and fits for a god couple hours to enjoy his birthday gifts that arrived in the mail (SUE we got 2 more boxes)
he was also well behaved when i took him the gym with me, there he played in the little playroom where i could watch over him, hmm maybe he is just bored with me and our home:)
This photo is him having a fit for NO reason at all.

We attempted church and the park on Sunday but neither was real eventful, Jacob fell asleep before church and then the park was just to hot for J to be on his hands.
He has begun to understand the beat of music and enjoys bobbing up and down in a dance like way when he hears it, we have also been big on animals and the sounds they make, he has a book with the first 100 animals and loves to flip the pages and point while i tell him what it is, this is actually the game he plays with EVERYONE, while u hold him he points and you must tell him what everything is, light, table, etc...

Take care all!!!!

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Oh what a week it has been, from not having talked to Josh for 3 days to Jacob teething i am worn out, and i know most of you think oh well the week isnt even over yet, Well our days all run together..."the days feel like years when you're gone" So for me it has been a long week.

My Child does not like or want anything he did 2 weeks ago, he doesn't want a bath, or mac and cheese or grilled cheese, finally after 2 days of eating close to NOTHING he ate some noddles for me but g'ssss to have his self control:) I feel bad that he doesn't want anything but find myself torn between sticking to my guns with only offering 2 choices so as not to fall into a bad habit or getting him to just EAT, The fever is gone so ya think he would be feeling better but NOPE all he wants to do is throw tantrums and drink milk, which then causes brain freeze and he gets angry all over.
Boy i hope those teeth break threw soon, i blog about this b/c i am hoping that the dis liking everything is all part of the defiant phase Maggie and i talk about with our 1 year olds. Just testing and exploring i suppose.
I have photos to prov this somewhat monotoned child is capable of throwing a fit, it used to only be for an exact reason but now it last all day!!! check back for those, it is bed time at last oh and please be praying that there are only 4 or so weeks to go for the Garner family
xoxoxo

I wanna soak up the sun

...and so we did along with a few other ladies Jacob and I went to the beach today, it was a blast.
We started by applying loads of sunscreen and a hat for J. The sun was out and the water was actually warm and shallow, only coming up at the most to my knees. there was a beautiful church in the town we were in, Caorle, Italy. We swam in the Mediterranean sea, how many of you blog reader can say that!!!!!

Jacob loved digging in the sand with his BF Kennedy but wasn't so happy about the water. we spent the day working over the merchants that walk up and down and ended up getting a towel for 8 euro that was priced at 20!!!!! wheeling an dealing as Josh would say.
As you will see in the photo J was so worn out he almost feel asleep on my shoulder in the sea!!! so the day was wonderful and thought i got a tad red i am sure it will be a tan in a few days!!!

Jacob had been spending time at the pool and trying to cut a tooth, his little gums are sore and have the blister on it, the tooth needs to break through!! i think it is actually his right lower k-9, poor darling. No walking yet but my mommy friends have faith in him that it will happen soon, i think he is going to wait for daddy just as he did for crawling.

We might find ourselves back at the beach this weekend HOPEFULLY but we always have the pool!!
Take care and God bless!!!!

Army Wives

So even with all the things running through my head that needs to be done, a final, Jacob needs shots, checking the mail for that package Josh sent weeks ago, i still couldnt resisit after a wonderful Sunday with my little boy sharing what i ahve ultimatly learned about motherhood and this quote:

Once you become a mother you stop being the
picture and start becoming the frame!!!
-Pamala
I have been an Army Wives addicted, i have watched the entire first season and though i know they are actresses, i cant help but laugh and cry all in one show. They portray us (army wives) so well, not so much the story lines because they are usually our worst nightmares, but the bond we make along the way as an Army Wife! I have connection all over the country and the world for that matter, a lady in Idaho whom i have never met but share a connection with as a mother and Army wife, i have a firend in Georgia, North Dakota, New York, Virginia, D.C. and many other places especially currently in Italy the ones getting me through this long deployment, and i think about them daily, about the strength we all share in raising our babies in supporting our husbands wherever their jobs take them and for however long!
I love being a mother and I love being an Army Wife
I love you Joshua!! You are our Hero through and through.

So going home is always fun but getting back into your own routine always makes me wonder if it was all worth it.
So anyway with the anticipation of josh returning home and trying to make order in the house, i have found it harder to get things back in order and find time to re connect with the web world, however 2 weeks from now school will be done and i will post for often and in depth about J's first year!!!

We arrived in Italy with winter weather, no joke i was in a sweatshirt and pants today!!!

Enjoy the pics!!

PLANS

For I know the plans i have for you, declares the LORD,"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a furture. Jeremiah 29:11

It is stated right there in black and white so why when Josh calls with bad re-enlistment news do i get so sad. I guess because we all want to have a plan, a plan that suits us, we start building is plan and get so anxious and optimisc about it. I suppose then we need to give it the Lord, beaue we are not in charge!!!!

Explanation: Josh was hoping to re-enlist and switch from a 21 Juliet (heavy equipmet) over to a Prison guard, well it looks ike now he can o anything until October, this means, he will get caught up in the 2009 deploment with the 173rd, the unit here in Italy. Unless lots and lots of prayer works!!!!

The future of are growing family, lies upon this so i guess it is up to me to decide how i want to look at it. BLAME the ARMY and be angry, or give it to the Lord.

OH YES- 10 days and counting.

just 10 days until i am hopefuly in AMERICA, Jacob and i have been so busy and it will only get wrose until we are home, wrapping things up, getting Diamond a hair cut, seems like eveyrone wants MEET before we take off. We have been enjoying the SRNG WEATHER fianlly sunshine comes wth rain of course ,so we just take advantage of warm days.

Jacob has been loving the park. He crawls all over and climbs what he can. Pictures to follow i promise!!!!

I am posting a picture of the back of his hair, YES it is getting little ringletts.

Josh surprised me with a new plush robe for Mothers day and a gift card!!! I LOVE HIM!!!

Tiana and i are planning on attedning Mothers Day Brunch, with our babies!!!! Her husband i also away.

Proverbs22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
